May 15, 2005 - The first ever “Ultimate QuadMasters ATV Challenge” presented by QuadBoss came to Greenville, MI and was a hit!!! Although it was cold, wet and rainy… it didn’t seem to bother the riders or the spectators, in fact it seemed to add to the excitement especially around the mud bog challenge.
Rain or Shine, the show must go on and that it did. There was a slight rain delay Saturday morning that caused the event to kick off later than scheduled; however once the rain let off the staff took their positions and the riders moved eagerly to the staging lanes. The riders were given an hour to practice on the course so that they could familiarize themselves with each of the challenges along with the bright orange tape laid out as penalty markers (off-course lines).
“The orange lines are what guides the riders through the course and deters riding off course or out-of-control,” says Marcus Antcliff Event Manager. “The riders are penalized for each time that any part of their ATV crosses over or even touches any part of the orange line.” It was entertaining to watch the riders during their initial practice run because the adrenaline levels were so high and they were so pumped to ride that they attempted the challenges at fast speeds, only to wind up bouncing off course and racking up penalties. After practice the staff noticed that all of the riders were beginning to strategize on how to effectively complete each of the challenges with little or no penalties while maintaining a respectable time.
The individual challenges staff made a point over the course of the weekend to remind the riders that they should stay focused on their riding styles during competition rounds so as to avoid unnecessary penalties. The riders took advantage of the QuadMasters’ staff advice and ran their practice rounds as though the competition rounds had already begun.
The competition between the riders and the camaraderie amongst the riders and staff alike was certainly a highlight of the weekend’s events. Everyone was cheering on each of the riders, pushing them to achieve the fastest time and to set new records for each of the challenge stations. There was a father & son duo that were so revved up during competition that it was exciting to watch them attack each of the challenges one after the other trying to better the other’s time & score.
Saturday’s events schedule consisted of two complete competition rounds in the morning and three in the afternoon and Sunday’s format was similar in the morning and differed with only one round in the afternoon. “We arranged a special “Mud Run” competition on Saturday afternoon which offered up a prize in the form of a Gift Certificate for a set of Tomahawk Tires from Desser Tire. Each rider was given three runs through the mud bog to try and achieve the “Best Time.” The winner of this competition was Tony Karhoff of Shiawassee, MI. This was a fun challenge that we put on for the riders and fans that braved the cold, rainy weather that challenged us, throughout the weekend,” stated Marcus Antcliff, Event Manager.
On Sunday, QuadMasters gave away a set of QuadBoss Aluminum Ramps compliments of QuadBoss and Tucker Rocky, this prize was awarded to Creig Karhoff of Shiawassee, MI who had the best combined overall time calculated from each challenge of the weekend. While the weekend’s results were being tabulated the staff and riders took this opportunity to reflect on the preceding events. It was nice to see and hear that the unfortunate weather hadn’t put a damper on the weekend’s fun. At this time we would like to thank all of the staff, volunteers, riders and sponsors for making the weekend a success, hats off to all of you!
Rider Testimonials
I have just returned home from the QuadMasters event in Greenville Michigan and just wanted to let you know what a great experience that it was. I wasn't real familiar with the events but all the QuadMaster event members were great people and were really helpful during the event. The best event was the urban course, which I had some problems with; going over a car was something new for most of us. The course was challenging for all levels of riders and kept everyone at the show challenged. The QuadMaster personnel were normal ATV riding enthusiast just like the competitors so they were very encouraging. Thanks again and look forward to seeing you guys in Wisconsin
